Round Trip Ticket to Pontiac
I called this ‘Round Trip Ticket to Pontiac’ for a couple reasons: 1. there was once a time when Pontiac was a destination. Not a place you pass through on your way to your actual destination. 2. I have made my return ‘flight’ to Pontiac to land, set up shop and work. When I left Pontiac in 2003 heading for Ann Arbor I thought it was for the best and for good. After many life experiences across the world with a variety of communities, the realization became quite clear: I needed to go home to showcase to the world the history and charm of the city from where I hailed. What I ultimately recognized was that any area was being rebuilt abroad a younger generation was leading the charge. They did so by maintaining the area(s) they lived and worked, inventing new uses for some buildings that possessed much history and utilizing new technologies to create ‘place’ where there wasn’t and the people were life-long residents. I decided the best way to do the same for Pontiac was the only way I knew how; through Architecture.
The usage of Architecture and Design throughout the City will create spaces that not only activate the site where the work will be performed but adjacent areas. Additionally, we are looking to educate the community along they way. Everyone can and should use an Architect when designing/building buildings but not everyone does.
